Iris hookeriana is a rhizomatous perennial iris from the Himalayan mountains of India and Pakistan, grown for its fragrant blue, purple or lilac flowers mottled with darker colour. The key to growing it is well-drained soil, full sun and protection from winter wet, which is why it is usually grown in containers or an alpine house or bulb frame in cooler temperate regions.
